The Ensign and other church magazines are a great resource for you and your family. There are times when I faithfully read the Ensign from cover to cover and other times when I seem to really struggle to find the time to read. However, I have found that as I make the time to read the Ensign and the other church magazines that I learn something and find answers to my prayers. Every Sunday, we pick up the hymnal and sing a variety of songs meant to encourage the Holy Spirit to join us in our worship. We also use these beautiful songs in our family home evenings, and listen to them throughout the day. The Martyrdom of Joseph Smith

One hundred and sixty-three years ago today, Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, were shot and killed in jail in Carthage Jail at Carthage, Illinois. Willard Richards and future prophet John Taylor were with them. Taylor was wounded, while Richards escaped harm. I cannot express in adequate words the events of that day, and so I will not try. In honor of our next ward activity, which was recently changed to a potluck dinner, I am going to share the top ten items you’ll find at an LDS potluck dinner. 10) Banana pudding, which comes in several varieties, is a common staple of potlucks. You may end up with slimy kind that has been cooked or the instant Jell-O pudding recipe. With the update of the church website, there is a new item to add to your computer – Relief Society and Elder’s Quoroum! This week, we covered topics ranging from postpartum depression to ways to keep our youth busy over the lazy, hazy summer days. And, believe it or not, we actually had a full week of Gospel Doctrine and Relief Society lesson blogs! All in all, it’s been an interesting week! Gospel Doctrine In Signs of Destruction, we looked at some of the signs of the Second Coming of Jesus. Visiting Teaching By Inspiration

At a recent stake Relief Society training session, I learned something about home and visiting teaching that I had never heard before. In my ten years of visiting sisters in the ward, I generally followed the message published in the Ensign. However, I learned that in various cases – particularly including new and inactive members – the home and visiting teachers have the opportunity to teach outside of the proscribed lessons. The Relief Society and Elder’s Quorum lesson for the fourth Sunday of the month comes from the most recent General Conference issue of the Ensign. Each ward and branch, of course, will be different.
